What is CAST Energy ?
CAST Energy offers a revolutionary solar power generation system, designed for easy implementation in remote areas thanks to its containerized format. This innovative system is not just a photovoltaic solar panel and battery storage solution; it is fully modular and transportable in a standard 40-foot container.
Each container can generate up to 240 kW and offers an impressive storage capacity of 960 kWh, surpassing most other solutions on the market. Thanks to its proprietary panel deployment system, CAST Energy can install solar panels up to 2.3 meters high, minimizing spatial footprint. This system is perfectly suited to transforming access to clean energy in places that were previously difficult to equip.
CAST Energy is an early-stage startup born from a thesis project at University College London in collaboration with the United Nations’ World Food Programme.

The team
The team is made up of four students with diverse backgrounds, a strong sense of entrepreneurship and a thirst to help society through innovation.

Chris Tagnon
Chris is currently pursuing an MPhil in Engineering and Management at the University of Cambridge. He is a First Class Mechanical Engineering graduate from University College London. He has acquired a breadth of experience in research, consulting and engineering, in the energy and e-mobility industries as well as top tier motorsports. In his first year, Chris coauthored a paper on EV batteries within Imperial College London’s Electrochemical Science and Engineering research group. As part of his thesis project, he developed the solution which gave birth to CAST Energy. Recently, Chris was awarded the Engineering Leaders Scholarship from the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Joseph de Solages
Joseph de Solages is in his final year at IMT Atlantique, where he has specialized in performance and risk management in industrial environments. He is pursuing a work-study program, working on the development and management of R&D projects in the industry. After gaining initial research experience with CEA, optimizing magnetic sensors, Joseph completed a research internship at Imperial College London, where he conducted a techno-economic study on the impact of lithium-ion battery design on disassembly costs.
